Why Foot Soak by Stefanie Kleinburd, Women's Health Coach

Along with wearing great shoes -- a good foot soak can go along way in helping keep your feet happy. In fact, because the skin on your feet have the largest pores (feet have 250,000 sweat glands, emitting a half pint of liquid every day), soaking your feet in a healing mixture like this one can help keep all of your body feeling well. So, how about making some time for a regular foot soak this year?

The Epsom salt and baking soda in this recipe help draw toxins from your body. And, at the same time replenish your body with the calming, restorative nutrient magnesium. Add a little essential oil and perhaps some marbles -- and you've got yourself a cleansing and invigorating foot soak.

Cleansing and Invigorating Foot Soak

1/2 cup Epsom salt

1/4 cup baking soda

5 - 10 drops sweet orange or peppermint essential oil

2 - 3 cups marbles (optional, but great for massaging!)

Make a mug of your favorite tea, play your favorite relaxing music, maybe even light some candles.

Wherever you're most comfortable, add hot water (as hot as you can stand) to a foot basin or the bathtub. Be sure to add enough water so it'll cover your feet and ankles.

Pour in your foot soak mixture and swirl around with your feet until it's dissolved. Soak your feet for 20 minutes or until the water becomes cool.

If you decide to add the marbles, gently roll your feet over the marbles to massage your feet. And, from time to time, pick up the marbles with your toes. This helps stretch and relax the muscles in your feet.

Once you dry your feet, massage and moisture your feet with your favorite lotion with a few extra drops of essential oil.
